The Port Authority will light the George Washington Bridge in green this month in honor of the Girl Scouts.

Hundreds of scouts walked across the span between New Jersey and New York on Sunday to celebrate the organization's upcoming centennial next year.

More than 2,500 scouts, parents and troop leaders crossed the bridge and back as part of a ceremony called "bridging." It typically takes place when the girls earn higher ranks in the organization.

Sixteen-year-old Anna Kohli of Woodcliff Lake told The Record newspaper "Girl Scouting has been a big part of her life for the past 11 years.

Other scouts explained how the group has taught them how to aid the elderly and the homeless.
