State Sen. Richard Codey says family and business concerns are the main reason he has decided not to run for governor, not politics.

The Democratic former governor announced Friday that he would not challenge incumbent Chris Christie this year.

Codey said in an interview with The Associated Press that he did not feel right abandoning the new funeral home he bought about a year ago for a year of campaigning, and maybe more.

Codey says he lined up $20 million in donation promises this month and believes he would have had a chance of unseating Christie. But he says some of the money was contingent on the race being close by early fall.
