
Overturned ambulance closes part of Route 1 in New Brunswick
NEW BRUNSWICK — An ambulance that overturned on a Route 1 off ramp caused major traffic issues on Friday morning.
The ambulance operated by Galaxy Transport overturned on the ramp from Route 1 northbound to Route 18 north around 5:30 a.m., according to New Brunswick Police spokesman Captain J.T. Miller. The driver of the ambulance and a front seat passenger were hospitalized for minor injuries.
Miller said a Toyota Wagon was also involved in the collision but the driver did not require medical attention.
The road was reopened around 8 a.m. northbound at Route 18 following cleanup and investigation of the incident. Traffic was diverted onto Route 18 southbound for about two hours.
The closure also caused delays a delay on Route 130 and Ryders Lane approaching Route 1 in North Brunswick.
A crash on Route 37 at Washington Street in Toms River caused the shutdown of the eastbound lanes just after 7 a.m. on Friday. Details of the crash have not yet been disclosed by Toms River Police.
