TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — The New Jersey State Republican Committee reports it spent more on private jets in the first three months of the year than the Democratic state party spent in total.

That's according to political party finance reports made public Friday by the state's Election Law Enforcement Commission.

Gov. Chris Christie used the private planes as he traveled the country in January, preparing for a possible presidential run. The party spent $231,000 on the planes, all in January.

The Republican state party spent $452,000 in all during the period. The Democratic committee spent $205,000 over that same time.

The state Democratic and Republican Assembly and Senate campaign committees spent far less than that.

In all, the six committees raised $973,000 in the quarter and spent $1.02 million.
