Chris Christie Stumps For Tax Cut at Town Hall

Gov. Chris Christie is taking his election-year tax cut plan to the people.

The governor stumped for the recently revived 10 percent tax cut proposal during a town hall meeting in Bergen County on Tuesday afternoon.

Christie first proposed an income tax cut last January. But the Democratic majority in the Legislature refused to go along because they said state revenues did not support a cut.

The governor recently resurrected the plan with the proviso that the Legislature could revoke the cut if revenues dip. The cut would come as an income tax credit worth 10 percent of the property taxes paid up to $10,000.

The cut would be worth an average of $937 in Bergenfield, where Christie was holding his 106th town meeting.
