Chris Christie Says No Decision on Banning Fracking Waste

Gov. Chris Christie says he hasn't decided whether to sign a measure that bans hydraulic fracturing byproducts from other states from entering New Jersey.

Speaking Wednesday at a town hall event in Mahwah, Christie said has not yet reviewed the bill, which cleared the Legislature earlier this week.

Hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as fracking, involves blasting chemical-laced water deep into the ground. The measure Christie is considering bans the shipping, transporting, treating or disposing of wastewater from fracking done in other states, like neighboring Pennsylvania.

Christie says he will talk to environmental and business groups before reaching a decision on the measure. The governor says that if it makes sense, he will sign it.
