A Canadian man captured at Newark Liberty International Airport last year after smuggling more than 800 grams of cocaine into the United States from Costa Rica is now headed to federal prison.

Twenty-four-year-old Azariah Wilson received a 30-month sentence Wednesday. He also will have to serve three years of supervised release once he's freed from prison.

Wilson had pleaded guilty in January to a complaint charging him with knowingly and intentionally importing 500 grams or more of cocaine.

Prosecutors say Wilson ingested 56 pellets of cocaine -- nearly 883 grams overall -- before boarding a flight from Costa Rica to Newark in June. He had planned to fly from Newark to Ottawa, but never made that flight.
