Butler police shoot man multiple times outside his home, reports say
A shooting in a Butler neighborhood involved a member of the Butler police department on Thursday night.
Morris County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Captain Richard A. Rose said the member discharged his weapon during the incident at a home on Belleview Avenue around 7:30 p.m. but offered no details regarding the circumstances.
"The investigation into this matter is ongoing, and there is no current threat to the community," Rose said in an emailed statement.
CBS New York reported police were searching for a man witnesses described as a 23-year-old who has a history of breaking into homes. The report and authorities have not yet identified the man.
According to the CBS report, police said the man pointed a gun at officers before police opened fire. The report said police shot the man multiple times.
Authorities have not yet released any information about the man's condition.
