Bridgegate Messages Expose New Information [AUDIO]

Anyone looking for the “smoking gun” email or text linking Gov. Chris Christie to the Bridgegate scandal isn’t going to find it in previously redacted messages released Thursday. The documents to seem to expose the arrogance, pettiness and callousness of those already implicated and they clear up who sent and who received messages already made public.

We already knew former Christie staffer Bridget Kelly wrote the infamous email to former Port Authority official David Wildstein, “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee.” We now know Kelly is the one who also wrote, “Is it wrong that I’m smiling?” The message came after she was informed that the mayor of Fort Less complained about traffic jams delaying school buses. “I feel badly about the kids, I guess,” Kelly wrote.

The new documents also reveal it was Wildstein who wrote, “They are the children of Buono voters.”

Both Kelly and Wildstein are out of their jobs. Kelly was fired after her “traffic problems” email went public. Wildstein resigned from his post as did Port Authority deputy executive director Bill Baroni. Christie fired his longtime advisor and two-time campaign manager Bill Stepien. The governor said he didn’t like the tone Stepien’s emails conveyed.

Texts exchanged between Kelly and Wildstein also show the two talking about Mendy Carlebach, a Rabbi for the Port Authority police department and joking about jamming up traffic near his house and delaying flights to Isreal.

“We cannot cause traffic problems in front of his house, can we?” Kelly wrote to Wildstein.

“Flights to Tel Aviv all mysteriously delayed,” Wildstein relied.

“Perfect,” Kelly answered.

Another newly released message shows Stepien had some harsh words that were evidently aimed at Patrick Foye, the Port Authority’s executive director after an agency email showed up in the press in which Foye called the unannounced access lane closures abusive and possibly illegal.

“Holy sh*#, who does he think he is, Capt. America?” Stepien wrote to Wildstein on Oct. 1.

“It’s seems like they really felt comfortable in talking about how they could utilize their authority to apparently get back at people which is disturbing,” said Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Sayreville), who co-chairs the legislative panel probing the scandal. “There’s no new emails that are similar to the one that Bridget Kelly sent on Aug. 13.”

Nobody legitimately believes Kelly decided all on her own to close the lanes in Fort Lee, according to Wisniewski. He said he is still looking for answers to the questions, how did Bridget Kelly come to believe that she should send the email and who gave her the authorization?
