The iconic diamonds signifying HOV lanes were introduced to the New Jersey Turnpike, I-80 and I-287 during the 1990s to help ease roadway congestion. However, only a few years later the lanes were eliminated from both I-80 and I-287 after studies found them ineffective. The Turnpike remains the only highway in New Jersey to feature a HOV lane, although it seems like most people don't even realize the lane is still in effect.

During the show today Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick confirmed that the law delegating HOV lanes for cars carrying two or more people is indeed active, and violating this rule can get you a ticket.

But if the old HOV lanes weren't doing their job, is this one? Should we get rid of HOV all together, or switch it to a bus lane like one caller suggested?  Tell us your thoughts using the poll and comments section below.
