Arboretum With Native American Roots Opening in NJ

One man's passion for planting has led to the creation of a northern New Jersey arboretum -- a Native American nature sanctuary that was nearly 11 years in the making.

Anthony Pasquini's Pohatcong Native Arboretum in Washington Township will be dedicated and open to the public on Tuesday.

Pasquini says he and a team of plant enthusiasts including designer Jeff Stevens have planted more than 130 species of trees and shrubs native to northwest New Jersey. That includes the official state tree, the northern red oak, and 22 varieties of rose plants.

Pasquini says his passion for developing the 4-acre site came from his love of the area. Stevens said the gardens' design is inspired by his Native American background.
