Trenton Detectives Get More Support As Thunder Add Fundraiser

The Trenton PBA held another blood drive Friday in the name of two Trenton Police detectives shot and wounded while assisting a domestic violence victim as the Trenton Thunder add a ticket fundraiser.

The blood drive at Trenton Fire Department headquarters collected 107 units of blood for the Capital Health Regional Medical Center according to Tony Deluccio of the Community Blood Council of New Jersey.

"The community support for these 2 detectives has been tremendous.  In a time of crisis, good people from all around the area came to donate in honor of these two men. The Sun National Bank Center donated tickets, the Trenton Fire Department donated the space and the outpouring of love from the community cannot be understated.  On behalf of the Community Blood Council of New Jersey, we thank them all," said DeLuccio.

Another blood drive is also planned for the Trenton Free Public Library at 120 Academy Street in Trenton on Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The Trenton Thunder will hold a ticket fundraiser to help the families of Detectives Edgar Rios and James Letts with a ticket fundraiser. Fans can purchase tickets online at the Thunder website for the Thunder's against the New Britain Rock Cats and use the code TRENTONPD. 100% of the proceeds from all sales with the code will be donated to Rios and Letts.

The Trenton PBA will also have a 50/50 raffle with half the proceeds will go to a fan and half will be donated to the wounded officers. The Thunder added a new twist to the 50/50 for the night as autographed items from the 2013 team will also be awarded to lucky 50/50 ticket buyers.

"The community has really come out and shown their overwhelming support for Edgar and Jim. It is touching to know that we are all in this together," Lt. Mark Kieffer of the Trenton Police Department told the Thunder of recent fundraising efforts.

Lieffer told the Trentonian that Rios was still in critical but stable condition.
