Superstorm Sandy-damaged towns in New Jersey struggling to keep up with a surge in rebuilding applications are getting some extra help.

The Christie administration announced Wednesday it is making $3 million in federal aid available for local zoning offices to hire more staff and secure more office space.

To be eligible, towns must show a demonstrated need. Among those that will qualify are communities where zoning applications have increased by at least 10 percent solely as a result of Sandy.

The money is coming from the Sandy aid provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
