Young child killed crossing Plainfield street
PLAINFIELD — A child died after being struck by a car on Park Avenue on Wednesday morning.
Plainfield Police said the mother and her 3-year-old child were struck by a car as they crossed the street at the intersection of West Second Street around 9 a.m. The mother and child were hospitalized, and the child died at the hospital, police said.
Police said the male driver was the only occupant of the car and was not inured. The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation.
Park Avenue between Front Street and North Avenue was closed along with 2nd Street between Madison Avenue and Gavett Place as Plainfield Police continued their investigation, according to New Jersey Fast Traffic.
Police did not disclose the identities of anyone involved with the crash or say if any charges had been filed.
