Westwood police say the crash occurred around 3 p.m. Wednesday. But the names of the driver and the injured worker were not immediately disclosed.

Witnesses said the worker, who had just finished her shift, was grabbing a shopping cart as the driver backed out of a handicapped spot in front of the store. But the car suddenly lurched forward and struck the worker.

The worker suffered "very severe injuries" and underwent surgery at a hospital. But further details on her condition were not available Wednesday night.

The driver did not appear to be injured.

No charges have yet been filed, though the investigation is ongoing.
