Woman who put baby in a bag, threw it into neighbor’s yard sentenced to 6 years

A mother who put her newborn premature baby in a plastic bag and threw the child over a fence into her neighbor's yard has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Hudson County prosecutors say 40-year-old Rosibel Lanza must also serve five years of supervised release once she's freed from prison. The Jersey City woman had pleaded guilty in May to attempted murder and was sentenced on Friday.

The Jersey Journal reports the incident occurred on Aug. 31, 2013. The baby boy was found a short time later by some children who were playing nearby.

The baby was treated at a hospital and eventually was adopted. Authorities say the boy has some cognitive issues, but is otherwise in good health.
