Police have charged a 32-year-old woman with witness tampering after she allegedly tried to coerce a sexual assault victim into recanting the allegations she previously made to police.

Olga Rodriguez, of the Bronx, was arrested following a joint investigation by the Fairview police and members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit. Authorities say that the Prosecutor's Office learned on Monday that the victim of an aggravated criminal sexual contact investigation "was being coerced to recant allegations previously made to law enforcement officers so that charges filed against the defendant in that investigation would be dismissed."

Detectives then interviewed several people associated with the original investigation to determine if there had been witness tampering. Through the investigation, police identified and arrested Rodriguez on Tuesday. She was charged with one count of third degree witness tampering.

Rodriguez was transported to Bergen County Jail on $5,000 bail with a 10 percent option. She is prohibited from having any further contact with the victim and was ordered to surrender her passport. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 31.
