NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder says the unidentified woman was struck Thursday evening at the Newark Broad Street Station. She was taken to a hospital. Her condition was not immediately available. It's unclear why she was on the tracks.

The Summit-bound train had departed New York's Penn Station a few minutes earlier.

Snyder says there were a total of 900 passengers and crew members aboard at the time. No one else was injured.

There were delays of between 15 and 30 minutes on the Morris and Essex line

The investigation is ongoing.
