NORTH BRUNSWICK — A man and his wife were rescued from a 3 alarm fire that heavily damaged a home early Saturday morning.

The smoky 3-alarm fire broke out on Hobart Road in a neighborhood off Route 130 around 1:20 a.m., according to police Capt. Brian Hoiberg.

The two story home was completely gutted and deemed uninhabitable, according to Hoiberg.  Firefighters remained at the fire until 8:20 a.m.

The couple were the only people in the home and were hospitalized. The husband was released while the wife remains for minor injuries and is expected to be released on Saturday.

A police officer was hospitalized for smoke inhalation but no fire fighters were injured.

Hoiberg said North Brunswick Police, North Brunswick Fire Dept. arson investigators and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the fire.
