Middlesex County prosecutors say bail was set at $50,000 for 29-year-old Chiwueze Ebere, of Plainfield.

The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Route 1 south and Plainfield Avenue in Edison. Ebere's SUV allegedly struck a car in the intersection, and that car was pushed into another vehicle.

Wupiju Lin, a 70-year-old Edison resident who was a passenger in the car struck by Ebere's SUV, was injured in the crash. She died a short time later at a hospital.

Two other people were hurt in the crash, but further details were not disclosed.

It wasn't known Sunday if Ebere has retained an attorney.
