New Jersey Transit says its Trenton-bound River Line train struck the woman just south of the Burlington South Station at about 9:15 a.m.

NJ Transit spokesman John Durso Jr. says eyewitnesses say the woman positioned herself in front of the train and didn't attempt to move out of the way. The woman was alive when medical personnel arrived at the scene and was taken to Helene Fuld Medical Center.

Service on the River Line was temporarily suspended after the accident but has since resumed.
