Wisniewski Will Not Run For Governor In 2013

Assemblyman John Wisniewski says he will not run for Governor of New Jersey in 2013.

In a statement, the Chairman of the New Jersey State Democrat Committee explained that after discussion with supporters, friends and family, “I have come to the conclusion that it is not the right time for me to pursue a statewide campaign for full-time public office, and that my obligations to my family and business should take precedence.”

Wisniewski in his statement acknowledges praise heaped upon incumbent Governor Chris Christie (R)  for his handling of Hurricane Sandy which have led to high popularity in the poll. But the Assemblyman believes that will not stand in the way of a Democrat “mounting a strong challenge to Governor Christie next year.”

“The fact remains that (Christie’s) policies have overwhelmingly favored New Jersey’s wealthy at the expense of struggling families and have not represented the values of the people of our state.”

Wisniewski has been one of several mentioned as considering a run for the Statehouse in 2013. Newark Mayor Cory Booker is the person most Democrats are waiting for a decision from before announcing their own intentions. Booker in an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan on Friday night said he believes Christie is “vulnerable” but made no announcements about his possible run.
