Wire problems cause Friday afternoon NJ Transit delays

TRENTON — Overhead wire problems are causing delays for the afternoon commute on NJ Transit.

"We have a wire down east of Princeton Junction. The guys are on the scene making the repair," Amtrak spokesman Craig Schultz said, adding that two of the four tracks inbound tracks heading into New York between Trenton and Metropark are still operational. One track was already offline for ongoing repairs, according to Schultz. "We're down to about 50 percent capacity."

NJ Transit said that service could also be affected on the North Jersey Coast Line, Raritan Valley and Morris Essex lines.

The wire issue was discovered early Friday afternoon after an Acela train lost overhead power and passengers had to be transferred to another train according to Schultz.
