Over 500,000 Garden State residents rely on it. NJ FamilyCare is for people who don't have employer insurance. Online registration for Obamacare begins this Tuesday which has many wondering what that means for NJ FamilyCare.

"It'll mean very little actually," says Sen. Joe Vitale, chairman of the State Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee. "They'll continue to have the same coverage that they've had (and) that they've enjoyed under NJ FamilyCare and the same HMO."

There may be a transition for some into the health exchange that is being established by the federal government, but Vitale says that shouldn't be a heavy lift either.

"The benefits will be the same," explains Vitale. "What they pay in terms of premium if they do pay a premium will be the same. They just may transition to a different program, but all of it should be seamless if the Obama Administration gets it right."

Those being transitioned into the federal health care exchange will have the work done for them.

"They won't have to do anything," says Vitale. "They'll be notified by the (Health) department, but they'll continue to have the same coverage that they enjoy today and the premiums should stay the same and for those who are very low-income there may be no premium at all."
