It's been a morning of possibility. What's next for the presidential race? Could we really replace the TSA at Newark Liberty Airport?

And it's been a morning of tragedy. We're all pulling for a retired police officer badly hurt this week while honoring other cops who've made the ultimate sacrifice.

What if it was Bernie vs. Trump? NJ could help it happen

I've said before — I think Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump are tapping into the same kind of energy on different sides of the political spectrum. They're both passionate, they're both upfront, and they both appeal to people tired of politics as usual. And I can't blame people for being tired of politics as usual.

So while Hillary Clinton came to New Jersey Wednesday, I've been wondering if New Jersey voters might just hand another win to Bernie. Can you imagine a Bernie vs. Trump race? As someone who loves politics, I'd be all over it.

According to a recent poll, 8 percent of Republicans would support Hillary Clinton over Trump, but 15 percent of Democrats would support Trump over Clinton. Bernie could be a game-changer.

Port Authority ready to turn up the heat on TSA

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has put the TSA on notice — if it doesn't do something about the lines at Newark Liberty airport and other area airports, it'll be replaced by private security.

I had Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick, R-Union, who recently visited United Airlines at Newark airport, on the show Wednesday to talk about the situation.

"So I go down there, and what I see (from the TSA) is a complete mess. Not only is it a mess, but TSA agents and people who are standing in front of those lines who work for either the contractor or TSA screamed at the traveling public," he told me. "That actually is more upsetting to me than the lines."

But Bramnick said that's not his experience traveling elsewhere in the country, where, he said, "TSA people are actually pretty nice." Something's wrong at Newark.

"Maybe they don't like their jobs. If they don't like their jobs, leave," he said.

Best wishes for Retired Lt. Joseph Franklin

You know I'm a big supporter of police in New Jersey and elsewhere — people who put their lives on the line every day to protect the rest of us. That's why I'm also a big fan of the Police Unity Tour, a 320-mile bicycle ride in honor of fallen officers.

And that's why my heart goes out to Retired Roxbury Lt. Joseph Franklin and his family. Franklin was critically injured Monday during the ride. Monday morning, New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association President Patrick Colligan told me Franklin had been part of a dozen-bicycle backup, and suffered severe head injuries.

There had been mixed reports about his condition Tuesday night, but as of Wednesday morning, Franklin was still alive. My prayers are with him and his family in a difficult time.
