What better way to start off the new year than by picking the Jersey Jerk of the Week?
This is where I give you three choices based on what they’ve done and you pick the winner. Fortunately, here in New Jersey we never run out of options. So here goes.

Our first contestant …She passed herself off as a horse doctor and turned out to be a horse's _ _ s!
Jacque Smith led horse owners to believe she was either a licensed veterinarian or a student at the University of Pennsylvania. She would then administer drugs which only doctors should legally have access to, according to acting Attorney General John Hoffman and Steve Lee, acting director of the state Division of Consumer Affairs.
According to the charges, Smith misdiagnosed a horse with a urinary tract infection. In a second case, she incorrectly injected a horse she decided needed to be euthanized. The horse suffered for two hours before dying.

Next up…The American Civil Liberties Union who has a problem with elementary school students uttering the phrase “God Bless America” after reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in Haddon Heights.

And finally…This Brooklawn woman gave her husband's grandmother a drink mixed with anti-freeze.

Anne Castagna, 45, pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree aggravated manslaughter in the Aug. 19, 2012 death of 88-year-old Mary Groatman.
Castagna admitted to her attorney that on Aug. 19, 2012, she visited Groatman, her husband’s grandmother, who was a patient at the Deptford Center for Rehabilitation and Health Care, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office said. Witnesses admitted to seeing Castagna at the facility that day.
Hours after her visit, staff members found the elderly woman in a coma. When her condition failed to improvve, Groatman was taken off life support and later died.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, following an investigation, Castagna was arrested on Aug. 23, 2012. Her plea came the day before jury selection was set to begin for a trial.
