I imagine statistics are still hard to come by involving car accidents where use of a cell phone was the cause. Most drivers wouldn't admit fault to a cop especially now that the fines for illegal cell phone use while driving have doubled. So if an officer can't outright prove it, it's hard to know the real numbers.

Just yesterday in Mountainside, a 41-year-old woman rammed her car into the back of a school bus while talking on her cell phone causing the driver behind her to swerve into a utility pole. Police say she admitted to talking on her cell while driving and that she brought the phone down to check the time just before crashing her Volkswagen Passat into the back of a full-sized school bus. She and the driver behind her both had to be taken to the hospital. The driver of the bus was not injured and there were no passengers.
