The topic of road testing senior citizens came up on New Jersey 101.5’s Ask The Governor and Governor Christie says ‘I don’t think it’s a bad idea. I think it’s something we should all be concerned about.”

While I do agree that some senior citizens can cause a problem on the roads, there are others who can get themselves around quite nicely. For instance, my father drove until the age of 92, which I believe is part of the reason he lived so long. The drivers who are no longer capable would be weeded out with the testing.

How about we also test the young people who drive while distracted? Most seniors are aware of their driving shortcomings and pay more attention on the road or drive slower in the right lane (granted, at times with the blinker on for miles). The distracted driver on the other hand is in the left lane with their mind somewhere else.

If you were driving down turnpike, who would you rather have next to you? A distracted driver or a senior citizen?
