Authorities in Essex County are asking for the public's help in identifying witnesses to a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred in Verona last week.

According to police, the crash took place June 24 on Bloomfield Avenue near Hillcrest. Police say businessman and longtime Verona resident, Matthew BeneduceMcGrath, 59, was crossing the street when he was struck by a vehicle at about 9:30 p.m. He was transported to University Hospital in Newark, and pronounced dead at 9:58 p.m., police said. The driver did not stop, according to authorities.

Police captured surveillance images of individuals who may have witnessed the fatal crash.

Police say the investigation is continuing.
