Every dining establishment in New Jersey claims to be known for something. The best pizza, the best burger, the best "fill in the blank". There can't possibly be that many bests, and we all know that. But when people walk into these places, seeing signs and posters proclaiming their food of choice is the best makes you more likely to order it. If people agree, they're probably going to go home and tell their family and friends about what they ate and recommend they try it. Sometimes it can be around the corner. Other times it can be a place you stumbled upon when lost on the other side of the state. So, are you willing to set aside the time and travel a long distance just to take someone's recommendation and see if you agree?

I've done it multiple times. I love driving and I love food (especially when it's good food). Sometimes the food really is the best, sometimes the food is mediocre at best, but I find the experience to be worth it every time because I can now give a valid opinion on the place.

Here's where I've traveled:

The Yellow Submarine in Maple Shade for the best cheesesteaks in New Jersey.

Holsten's Brookdale Confectionery in Bloomfield for the best burgers AND best ice cream, and also because it was the diner that was used for the final scene in 'The Sopranos'.

Jimmy Buff's in Newark for the best Italian hot dogs.

The Chicken Or The Egg in Long Beach Island for the best and hottest wings.

The Mad Batter in Cape May for the best breakfast.

Bagel International in Bradley Beach for the best pork roll, egg & cheese.

So where have you gone?
