You can take it with a skeptical grain of salt or believe in the experts. There's something called the Axalta Automotive Color Popularity Report for 2013, and experts in the field of automotive body color say there really is a lot of psychology that goes into the selection of a car's color.

Some highlights:

Silver: The color of security and style, it indicates you're high class with an eye for the upscale.

Gray: Isn't that almost the same as silver? No, the experts say. Gray is the choice of people who don't want to stand out, who care more about the status quo and less about status.

Red: For men it projects power, action, and masculinity. For women it represents confidence and fun.
