12. Drummers drumming: $14,500 (union drummers, prevailing wage)
11. Pipers piping: $2,635.20 + $500 each for NJ piper’s licensing requirement
10. Lords a-leaping: $22,450 (see reason for #12)
9. Ladies dancing: $5,508.70 + $20 per song for lap dances
8. Maids a-milking: $13,125 + onerous organic milk tax add $2,000
7. Swans a-swimming: $100,000 (due to fish and game licensing)
6. Geese a-laying: $360 (Canada geese however get in-state tuition)
5. Golden rings: $8 (hey, it’s Jersey, they fell off a truck)
4. Calling birds: $599.96 + $1,600 in fines for birds calling on handheld device
3. French hens: $181.50 + $1,000 for ESL classes
2. Turtle doves: $10,290 (includes wetlands violation fines)
1. Partridge in a pear tree: $20,214.99 ($214.99 for partridge and pear tree, $20,000 for property taxes on tree)
