There are two statewide questions on the ballot this year. As I've been saying on air, we need to #VoteNoOnTwo to stop the major borrowing that would be tied to the gas tax hike. But there's another question on the ballot that New Jersey voters need to give a thumbs down to as well.

We were joined Friday morning by the executive director of Trenton's Bad Bet, Bill Cortese, who perfectly explained why New Jersey voters need to shoot down the idea of having new casinos built in North Jersey.

State lawmakers have made a lot of promises that they haven't kept, so why believe them now when they tell us that building two new casinos is a great idea?

I asked Bill what their main argument is for voting no on ballot question 1.

"We have a couple of out-of-state billionaires that have come in and made promises and said that we're going to create all these jobs, we're going to create all this new revenue with two North Jersey casinos. But they only tell you half of the story," Cortese stated.

The other half of the story is the fact that more casinos in Atlantic City will likely close and more jobs will be lost than gained, he said.

"They didn't even bother to do an economic study on what a casino expansion would do here in New Jersey," he said. "When you look at the wording on the ballot, basically it's a blank check to build two casinos north of New Brunswick, in any two counties."

Cortese gave possibly the best explanation I've heard yet on why you should vote no on question 1. Our politicians have lied about revenue projections in the past, so why wouldn't they do it again? It could wind up being another Xanadu project all over again.
