West Orange Doctor Sentenced in Kickback Scheme

A northern New Jersey doctor is headed to prison for his role in an illegal kickback scheme involving more than a dozen health care providers.

Dov Rand was sentenced Wednesday to serve five months in prison and five in home confinement.

Federal prosecutors say the 48-year-old Franklin Lakes resident admitted to twice taking envelopes of cash in exchange for making patient referrals from his West Orange practice. Rand allegedly bragged to an undercover witness that his appearance on "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" would lead to more referrals.

Rand was among 15 doctors and health care providers arrested in December 2011 on charges of taking illegal kickbacks to refer patients to the Orange Community MRI radiology and diagnostic facility in Orange.
