Essex County prosecutors say a bar bouncer was fatally shot while trying to break up a fight outside the northern New Jersey establishment.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the fight, which broke out around 2 a.m. Monday and apparently involved some bar patrons. And authorities would not say how many shots were fired or what type of weapon was used.

Prosecutors say the bouncer, 32-year-old Jacques Nelson of Orange, was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting occurred.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.
