Today is a very exciting day here on  NJ1015.com   as we debut a brand new TRAFFIC information blog with me, Bobby Blacktop .

I am pleased to serve as the moderator and I hope it will become a useful and informative tool as we deal with the challenges of driving in New Jersey.   The blog will be an interactive give and take and will be updated regularly.

Our first topic is the new construction project and traffic pattern on Interstate 78 in Union and Essex Counties.  Today was the first weekday that we had to deal with the delays and it was not pretty.   NJ 101.5 listeners updated their fellow commuters with reports of extensive delays of over five miles.

The project local lanes will carry four lanes and the express will have just one lane open during peak travel times. There will be additional lane closures at other times.  This affects both east and westbound Route 78 between milemarkers 50.4 (Vauxhall Road area)  and 58.5 (Routes 1 & 9). This project will complete the rebuilding of the highway in this area which was started in 2005  .

It is the most heavily traveled section of Route 78 and it is sure to affect many many travelers over the next several months--especially if you are driving to or from Newark Liberty Airport.

How did this affect your drive on Monday? What's your "secret route" around the construction? Share with your fellow commuters below.|

What traffic topic or question about the roads would you like to see answered? Let me know in the comments section.
