Weekend commuters will face challenges on the road and on the rails starting Friday night.

This weekend begins suspension of PATH service on Saturday and Sunday between Hoboken and 33rd Street, and 33rd Street and Sixth Avenue stations for the installation of Positive Train Control and Communications Based Train Control.

Service will be suspended started Saturday at 12:10 a.m. until Monday at 5 a.m. every weekend through December 19 except for Labor Day, Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving weekends. There will be additional weekend service between Hoboken and the World Trade Center and free, temporary bus shuttle service from the WTC to West 29th Street along Sixth Avenue.

According to the Port Authority, the work when completed in 2018 will determine the exact location of trains for real time information and allow trains to travel closer together.

On Route 280 in Newark, all traffic will  be shifted to the westbound side over Martin Luther King Boulevard as the existing eastbound overpass is demolished and replaced. The work begins at 10 p.m. on Friday night and is scheduled to be picked up by 5 a.m. on Friday morning, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

There will also be a wide load restriction in place as well. The ramp at Exit 14 from Route 280 to MLK Boulevard will be closed along with the boulevard itself

The westbound bridge was torn down several weeks ago and created long delays in both directions.

The Pulaski Skyway will be closed in both directions all weekend for the installation of deck panels and some concrete work as the rehabilitation of the 83-year-old bridge continues.
