Likely Democratic gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono has tapped a longtime state lawmaker to chair her campaign.

Buono announced the appointment of Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman on Monday.

Campaign officials say the Mercer County lawmaker will provide strategic counsel and "spread Buono's vision" for New Jersey."

Watson-Coleman was the black woman to chair the Democratic State Committee and the Assembly's first female majority leader.

Buono, a state senator from Metuchen, is seeking to oust incumbent Republican Gov. Chris Christie in November.
