Video Captures Waterspout Over Great Bay in South Jersey

The National Weather Service confirms reports of a waterspout over Great Bay on Tuesday afternoon.

Their storm report confirms observation of the waterspout around 4:15 on Tuesday afternoon by aircraft, several people on the ground and with a photograph.

Steve Pellettiere, of Ion Weather, tells newspaper he  watched the waterspout from Brigantine over the marshes around 4:40 p.m.  There was also a thunderstorm in Pleasantville nearby.

National Weather Service meteorologist Walter Drag  tells the Press of Atlantic City the reports were it was stationary for at least 8 to 10 minutes. There were no reports of injuries or damage.

The National Weather Service defines a waterspout as "tornadoes that form over water, or move from land to water. They have the same characteristics as a land tornado. They are associated with severe thunderstorms, and are often accompanied by high winds and seas, large hail, and frequent dangerous lightning."
