Someone brought a knife to a bat fight.

Caneys Point Police might have underplayed things a bit, when describing an encounter between a would-be robber and the cashier of Pfeffer’s Food Marker on Thursday afternoon.

"Upon (officers') arrival, it was discovered that a white male attempted to rob the cashier with a knife. The cashier challenged the robber and the suspect fled the store without getting anything," police wrote in a news release.

True.

What the cops didn't say in the release is that the cashier pulled a baseball bat, ran after the robber, and the robber made like Usain Bolt across the parking lot.

According to police, authorities were able to identify the suspect as Jonathan Bryceland, 22, from Woodstown. They didn't say how they ID'd him, but Bryceland's been arrested before, according to local jail records.

"Officers from the Carneys Point Police Department, Salem County Prosecutor’s Office and the Salem County Sheriff’s Office, K-9 Unit, worked throughout the night to locate Bryceland," police wrote.

Friday morning, Bryceland turned himself in at the Carneys Point Police Department, police wrote.

Bryceland was charged on a warrant with attempted robbery, robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, terroristic threats, possession of marijuana under fifty grams and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police

He was processed and lodged in the Salem County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 bail.
