Police dashboard camera video shows plumes of black smoke coming from the engine of the 61-year-old man's 1994 Buick in the parking lot of the store on Route 27 in South Brunswick. The man was alerted to the fire by other customers, according to South Brunswick Police, and ran outside to rescue his pug named King.

"At first he thought the car was overheating as people said it was smoking," police Captain Jim Ryan told MyCentralJersey.com "But people started yelling at him to little difficulty getting his keys out."

The fire prompted the evacuation of the strip mall for about 30 minutes as a Kendall Park fire crew put out the flames. Police say there were injuries but the car was destroyed.
