It's one of those bits of trivia big Bruce fans — many of whom just happen to live in New Jersey — know.

Springsteen co-wrote the Patti Smith classic (and 10,000 Maniacs cover) "Because the Night" — though the Boss never recorded it for an album.

Sunday night, U2 frontman Bono joined Springsteen and the E Street Band on at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland for a performance of the song — a frequent highlight of the current tour. Nils Lofgren delivered with his guitar solo, and Bruce was Bruce, as always.

Both singers have taken on the song before. R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe performed "Because the Night" with Springsteen at a Vote for Change tour performance in 2004. In 2010, Springsteen performed the song on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

And U2 performed the song with Springsteen — and Smith — at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary Concert on October 29, 2009.
