What a mess. The much awaited NJ State Supreme Court decision on pension payments came down today and in a 5 to 2 ruling sided with Gov. Christie. He's off the hook for fully funding the pension as called for in the 2011 law he himself signed.

Of course this is a major blow for public employee unions. Now you have the president of the state PBA saying "if it is only the employees who are required to make those sacrifices now under the court's ruling" state lawmakers should "immediately repeal" the 2011 law in its entirety. Does the PBA have a point? Is a law requiring more contributions by state workers fair if the state itself can be excused from making their payments? Then again, where was this money going to magically come from?

There's already talk of this being kicked all the way up to the United States Supreme Court. Stay tuned as they say.
In the meantime, what do you think?
