A cold front will pass through New Jersey late Monday night through early Tuesday morning, delivering some rain and then much drier air.

Here are your weather headlines for Monday, August 24, 2015...

Cold Front Tonight

We're coming off a nice (dare I say... nicer than expected) weekend. If you're making today an extended weekend, the quiet, pleasant weather will continue (for the daytime hours, at least).

Humidity levels have crept upwards overnight, and we do have some patchy fog to burn off through the morning. I've seen visibility readings as low as a quarter-mile in spots. Just be careful and slow it down this morning if you encounter a thick cloud on top of the roadway.

Otherwise, skies will be mostly to partly sunny today, with a light wind and warm temperatures. Highs this afternoon should range from about 83° to 88° for inland New Jersey, with mid to upper 70s along the coast.

As a cold front approaches from the west, rain chances will increase starting around 7 p.m. tonight. This front is pretty moisture-starved, and looking quite unimpressive on radar this morning. Still, some widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to sweep from west to east late tonight through early tomorrow morning. This will certainly be a case of "not everyone in New Jersey will get wet." And, given the marginal moisture availability and fairly low instability, the chances for heavy rain, flooding, and severe weather will be low. The worst impact would be some leftover showers and wet roads for the Tuesday morning commute.

Dry, Glorious Weather Week

Behind the front, we'll experience some wonderful drier air, dropping humidity levels and making our weather really comfortable through the rest of the week.

Tuesday will still be warm, as we rapidly clear away to bright, sunny skies. Highs will be in the mid 80s once again.

For Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, temperatures will come down a bit: highs will be within a few degrees of 80°, and many morning lows will fall into the 50s. The next chance for rain doesn't creep into the forecast until the weekend. It really looks like a gorgeous stretch of weather.

Tropical Update

Tropical Storm Danny had a busy weekend. On Friday, Danny rapidly intensified to a Category 3 major hurricane, packing impressive 115 mph winds. (Some have argued that the "Hurricane Hunter" airplane got lucky, catching Danny at its perfect moment of peak strength.) Through Saturday and Sunday, Danny encountered less favorable conditions and has now weakened to a minimal tropical storm, with maximum sustained winds at 40 mph. This weakening trend will continue as the storm moves over the Leeward Islands of the eastern Caribbean Sea today, and then toward Haiti and the Dominican Republic through early Wednesday morning. At this time, forecast models show Danny will pose no direct threat to New Jersey, but there's still plenty of time to watch and wait.

Meanwhile, another tropical wave in the central Atlantic Ocean is expected to develop into a Tropical Depression and/or Tropical Storm later today. The next name on the list is Erika. Current forecast models sweep this developing storm out to sea.
