The deadline for voters to be registered in order to vote in the special United States Senate election primary is Tuesday.

The primary election to fill the seat vacated when long time Senator Frank Lautenberg passed away will be held Tuesday, August 13.

Tuesday, August 6 is the deadline to apply by mail for a mail-in ballot and Friday, August 9 is the deadline for an application to receive a primary election mail-in ballots by electronic means for qualified overseas civilian and military voters. Mail in ballots must be received by 3 p.m. on Monday, August 12.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Congressmen Rush Holt and Frank Pallone and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver will be on the Democrat ballot while Steve Lonegan and Dr.Alieta Eck are running for the Republican nomination. The special election will be held Wednesday, October 16.
