Boys basketball – James Sofield, Sr., G, Jackson Liberty

Sofield poured in 27 points in a 59-49 win over Brick last Thursday to become the first 1,000-point scorer in the history of Jackson Liberty’s program. He followed that up with 26 points in a 57-44 win over Barnegat a day later.

Girls basketball – Nyree Grant, Jr., F, Paramus Catholic

Grant had 20 points and 14 rebounds while also limiting star Kayla Gibbs to a season-low 10 points to help lead Paramus Catholic to a 67-44 upset of previously undefeated Teaneck.

Wrestling – Jesse Bauta, Sr., 220, Southern

Bauta bumped up to heavyweight and scored a 10-7 decision over standout freshman Nick Rivera to clinch the victory as Southern toppled defending Group IV champion Brick Memorial, 25-22, in a match-up of top 10 teams in the state.

Girls swimming – Caroline Baldwin, Sr., Westfield

Baldwin took first in the 100 freestyle (52.42) and the 100 backstroke (55.94) and was part of the victorious relay team (3:35.82) that clinched a thrilling 87-83 victory over Immaculate Heart in a showdown of the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the state. Baldwin is part of a senior class at Westfield that has never lost a dual meet in their four years.

Girls fencing – Kristen Coury, Jr., Bernards

Coury earned her third straight individual title in the foil competition at the NJSIAA District 1 tournament on Saturday to help Bernards win its third straight overall team title at the district tournament.
