Victim Identified in Fatal Turnpike Accident

The New Jersey State Police have released the name of a Florida man, killed Tuesday afternoon when he was struck by a tractor-trailer on the northbound New Jersey Turnpike in Englewood.

According to a release obtained Tuesday evening, Izhak Shvarz, 60, was hit near milepost 120.4 while standing beside his 2004 Chrysler Town & Country. The NJSP reports that Shvarz, of Lake Mary, Fla., was partially in the right lane of the highway when the accident occurred around 1:15 p.m. Shvarz was pronounced dead at the scene about 40 minutes later.

The driver of the truck has been identified as Peter Kamuda, 65, of Danielson, Conn. As of Tuesday night, neither criminal nor motor vehicle summonses had been issued.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
