A small section of the Monmouth County jail here was evacuated this evening after a report of an unidentified hazard there, officials said.

Monmouth County Sheriff spokeswoman Cynthia Scott.would not describe the nature of the hazard nor how authorities were alerted to it, saying such information would compromise internal security of the jail.

A pod in the county jail that usually holds about 66 inmates was evacuated following the report, said a spokeswoman.

On average the jail contains some 1,100 prisoners, said Brown.

Nobody fell sick or was taken to the hospital, she said. "It appears to be a false alarm," said Scott.
