The main casino union in Atlantic City has extended an agreement it reached with the Tropicana Casino and Resort, pledging not to block the casino's entrances for six months.

But Local 54 of the Unite-HERE union says the extension of a consent agreement with the casino leaves the union free to take other actions to protest the lack of a contract there, including pickets, boycotts and, if necessary, a strike.

Last month, 49 union members were arrested for sitting down in the street outside the casino's main entrance. The Tropicana handed out 30-day suspensions to the 21 of its workers who were among those arrested.

The union promises more protests are in store.
