Two police officers involved in the fatal shooting of a New Brunswick man will not be in uniform or on the streets until a departmental review is completed.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan said Friday he's also received assurances that the officers' failure to have certain equipment has been addressed within the department.

Kaplan on Thursday announced a grand jury decided not to bring criminal charges against Officer Brad Berdel in the shooting death of Barry Deloatch last year.

Police say Deloatch threatened Berdel's partner, Officer Daniel Mazan, with a board. Prosecutors noted the officers didn't have police-issued batons at the time, and Berdel didn't have his chemical spray.

A lawyer for Deloatch's family says Kaplan was unable to say during a meeting Friday what corrective actions had been taken.
